MY ALT-CV

During the conversation, it was very interesting to see the difference between digital literacies and digital skills, I always thought of it as a skill you just have or acquire, but I started to think of it as rather something you need to be fully aware of and learn because of many reasons mentioned such as establishing between fake news and real ones for example, what is the nature of the information displayed to me, and what about what’s hidden from me?
Digital literacy is not only about knowing how to use your skills but also to think about them in a sense, Powerpoint is not just Microsoft skills, how about the content? Do we always stop and think about copyrights? Do we always consider the ethical element behind it? The element of literacy was very interesting in the conversation.

During the conversation it was mentioned how we are heavily influenced by digital media/social media and sometimes we are not even aware of it, this made me think about the article and how social media affects the way we think and how we form some of our opinions and how sometimes it has an even bigger influence on us more than personal interactions.. If we regard the negative impact of this, and consider how this gives us a digital citizenship in a way like mentioned in the article, I believe and agree that social media has given me some sort of identity and “global presence” especially on platforms like twitter social presence gives you a voice and an outlet for ideas that are sometimes better heard on social media than in real life. Thinking about Egypt and the revolution and how it started, would it be the same if there was no campaign on Facebook encouraging people to ask for their rights?
Social presence and digital citizenship are important, however you should never disregard digital literacies. It is always important to think of all the elements regarding what is posted and what is not.
